Breckenridge, Minnesota – Snow will quickly coat highways across the southern Red River Valley by 6 a.m., creating slick travel conditions that could slow drivers through the late morning hours Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. to noon CST for Wilkin and Grant counties in Minnesota and Barnes, Ransom, Sargent and Richland counties in North Dakota. Total snowfall up to 4 inches is expected before the system exits around midday.

Roads in Breckenridge, Elbow Lake, Valley City, Lisbon and Wahpeton will become snow-covered during steady bursts of snow. Interstate 94 near Valley City and Highway 75 along the Red River could turn slippery quickly, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice forms first. Secondary rural roads may remain snow-packed into the afternoon.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and call 511 in Minnesota or North Dakota for updated road conditions before heading out. Even short trips may take longer during peak snowfall.

Snow should taper near noon, but untreated surfaces could remain slick into early afternoon. Additional updates will be issued if snowfall totals exceed expectations or travel impacts worsen.
