Philadelphia, PA – A soaking storm system continues to drench the Mid-Atlantic this Friday, with up to half an inch of rain expected across eastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey by tonight—enough to trigger minor flooding in poor drainage areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, widespread showers with embedded thunderstorms will persist through the afternoon and evening, especially in urban corridors like Philadelphia, Trenton, and Camden. Rainfall totals between 0.25 and 0.5 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible where thunderstorms develop.

Communities along I-95 and Route 1 should be prepared for ponding on roadways and slow travel during the evening commute. Low-lying spots, clogged storm drains, and urban intersections are most at risk for nuisance flooding. Power outages aren’t expected to be widespread, but a few rumbles of thunder may accompany the rain, particularly during peak afternoon hours.

Temperatures will hover in the upper 50s to low 60s through the day, with drier conditions expected to return just in time for the weekend. The National Weather Service advises residents to stay alert to changing conditions and avoid driving through standing water.

Rain tapers off late Friday night, but additional alerts could be issued if storms redevelop this evening.
