Michigan Hunter Dies in Accidental Shooting at Sleepy Hollow State Park

St. Johns, MI – A 42-year-old hunter from St. Johns died following a tragic accidental shooting on Wednesday at Sleepy Hollow State Park. Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded around 6:50 a.m. to reports that the man had shot himself in the leg while hunting.

Authorities were able to locate the hunter using GPS information from the man’s 911 call. Emergency responders found the man had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the incident remains under investigation. Assistance at the scene came from multiple agencies, including Michigan State Police, St. Johns Police, and several area fire departments.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Bath Township Police, and Ovid Fire Department also provided aid. The Sleepy Hollow area remains a popular destination for outdoor activities, including hunting, where the incident occurred.

Sheriff’s officials urge hunters to take extra precautions and use safety measures to avoid further accidents during the season.
