Kalamazoo, MI – An accident involving a box truck and multiple emergency vehicles caused closures on I-94 near Sprinkle Road Thursday morning.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported that icy conditions contributed to the crash at the 80.5-mile marker. A 24-foot box truck lost control and collided with three Comstock Fire vehicles and a patrol car. The truck overturned after the collision.

Authorities said no first responders were injured. The truck driver suffered minor injuries and received treatment at a local hospital. Emergency crews closed eastbound I-94 at Sprinkle Road to clear the highway and investigate the crash.

According to officials, the initial crash had already slowed traffic before the box truck struck the emergency vehicles. Responders stressed the importance of slowing down and moving over for emergency personnel, especially in inclement weather.

Roads reopened after crews cleared debris and towed damaged vehicles. The sheriff’s office continues to urge drivers to exercise caution on slick winter roads.
