Caribou, ME – Approximately 65,000 households remain without power across northern Maine as residents endure sub-freezing temperatures following a recent storm, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou. This accounts for about 25% of the population in the region.
The agency reported Thursday that wind chills are expected to plunge into the single digits overnight, intensifying concerns for those without heat. As recovery efforts continue, Friday’s forecast calls for partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies, with breezy conditions and high temperatures in the 20s. Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph.
Officials urged residents using portable generators to exercise caution, emphasizing the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Generators should be operated outdoors and away from windows, doors, and vents, with functioning carbon monoxide detectors installed in homes.
