Jasper County, IN – A single-vehicle crash on I-65 turned into a heroic rescue after a truck lost control Wednesday.

Indiana State Police responded to the accident around 4 p.m. near the 228.5 mile marker, just south of the State Road 10 exit for DeMotte. The truck veered off the icy road, rolled over, and hit a tree 50 feet from the highway.

According to Indiana State Police, Trooper Martin Benner found the passenger unconscious and not breathing. He immediately began CPR with assistance from the truck’s driver and three Good Samaritans. One of them, Theron Bogan of Rensselaer, was an off-duty paramedic.

For 20 minutes, the group performed CPR until emergency responders arrived. EMS successfully revived the passenger, who was later taken to Franciscan Health Crown Point for treatment. The driver was unharmed, and police ruled out drugs and alcohol as factors.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department and other emergency services also assisted. Officials emphasized the importance of collaboration in emergencies.

Indiana State Police thanked the Good Samaritans, noting their actions likely saved a life.
