Miami, FL – South Florida residents are bracing for heavy rainfall and possible flooding Monday, September 9, as another round of storms moves through the region this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Miami, a slight risk (level 2 of 4) of excessive rainfall is in effect across the Miami, Broward, and southern Palm Beach metro areas. Forecasters warn thunderstorms could bring more than 2 inches of rain in a short period, raising the potential for localized urban flooding.
The greatest threat is expected between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with strong wind gusts and lightning accompanying the storms. NWS officials are urging drivers to avoid flooded roads, stressing the message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
While rainfall totals may vary, the heaviest downpours are most likely during the evening commute, potentially slowing traffic on major highways including I-95, the Palmetto Expressway, and Florida’s Turnpike. Flash flooding could impact low-lying areas, especially in downtown Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and parts of Hollywood.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts and report any flooding to officials. Outdoor plans should be reconsidered until conditions improve later tonight.
