Michigan City, IN – Firefighters swiftly extinguished a major blaze involving several semi-trucks early Sunday morning at Gallops Truck Stop.
The fire broke out around 2 a.m. Sunday morning with multiple semis engulfed in flames near fuel pumps and the store. Crews from Coolspring Volunteer Fire Department received mutual aid from Michigan City Fire Department, Pines Fire Department, and Westville Fire Department.
According to the Coolspring Volunteer Fire Department, first responders brought the fire under control in less than an hour. Despite the intense flames and proximity to fuel tanks, no injuries were reported.
Hazmat teams, police, EMS, and Cloverleaf Towing also assisted in the operation. Their coordinated efforts prevented the fire from spreading further and ensured public safety.
Photos show towering flames consuming trucks under the truck stop’s canopy, with firefighters working diligently nearby. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
Community members praised the quick action and teamwork that averted a potential catastrophe. Officials urged truck stop patrons to remain vigilant and report emergencies immediately.
