Baltimore, MD – Maryland residents are under a tornado watch this Friday, with the alert in effect until 2 p.m. EDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued the watch for central and eastern parts of the state, including Baltimore and surrounding areas, as a warm front moves northward, bringing the risk of severe thunderstorms.
According to the NWS, isolated to widely scattered thunderstorms could develop throughout the morning and early afternoon, with some potentially becoming supercells capable of producing tornadoes. Additionally, damaging wind gusts of up to 60 mph are possible in the more intense storms.
The tornado watch area is extensive, covering a region approximately 75 miles east and west of a line from Monticello, New York, to Patuxent River, Maryland. Marylanders are advised to remain vigilant and prepared to take shelter if severe weather warnings are issued.
