Prairie Du Rocher, IL – A Ruma man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle UTV crash that remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a statement released by the department, deputies responded at approximately 4:17 p.m. to the area of 1482 Carr Road near Prairie Du Rocher after receiving a report of a side-by-side UTV crash. Emergency responders located a 2021 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 that had left the roadway. The driver, identified as 64-year-old Randall Brunkhorst, was found unresponsive and not breathing.
CPR was being administered by bystanders when first responders arrived, and Monroe County EMS took over life-saving efforts. Despite their attempts, Brunkhorst was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated that Brunkhorst’s vehicle veered off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned. Witnesses told deputies they saw the UTV leave the roadway, and authorities believe Brunkhorst may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
As of Monday, the incident remains under active investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.
