Channahon, Illinois Suspicious Package Prompts Police Department Evacuation and Road Closures

Channahon, IL — A suspicious package delivered to the Channahon Police Department on Monday afternoon led to the evacuation of Village Hall and administrative police personnel, as well as the closure of nearby roads.

According to a statement from the Village of Channahon, the incident began earlier in the day when the package was received at the police department. As a precaution, all administrative staff were evacuated from the building. Emergency services responded promptly to assess the situation.

By 4:30 p.m., Navajo Drive was closed at Route 6, extending to Liberty Drive, and St. Elizabeth Drive was closed at Navajo Drive. An update at 4:50 p.m. announced the cancellation of the Village Board meeting scheduled for Monday evening.

Residents were advised to avoid the area and to refrain from visiting the Channahon Police Department or Municipal Center for any business. For police services, individuals were instructed to call the non-emergency line at 815-467-2112, and to dial 9-1-1 for emergencies.

Authorities have not released further details about the nature of the package or any potential threats it may pose. The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
