Salem, NH – New Hampshire State Police are renewing their call for public assistance in a nearly two-decade-old cold case involving the suspicious 2006 death of a Salem man.

William Dobens, 55, was found dead inside his home at 7 South Policy Street on May 5, 2006. An autopsy later determined Dobens died from a stab wound to the chest. Investigators at the time labeled the death suspicious, though the medical examiner has yet to formally determine the exact manner of death.

According to a recent post from the New Hampshire State Police Cold Case Unit, the case remains unsolved, and officials are once again urging the public to come forward with any information that could help move the investigation forward. Authorities emphasized that justice for Dobens and closure for his family remain priorities nearly 19 years later.

The circumstances surrounding Dobens’ death have left authorities with unanswered questions. While foul play is strongly suspected, officials said there has not been enough evidence to conclusively classify the death as a homicide.

The Cold Case Unit encourages anyone with information to submit tips via the state’s online form at business.nh.gov/ColdCaseTips or to contact the unit directly at coldcaseunit@dos.nh.gov.
