Bangor, Maine — Steady rain will return Saturday night and continue into Sunday, bringing up to 1 inch of rainfall that could slow travel and reduce visibility across Bangor, Ellsworth, Presque Isle, Caribou and Houlton from 8 p.m. Saturday through 2 p.m. Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the heaviest rain will fall between midnight and 10 a.m. Sunday, with Downeast areas near Ellsworth and Bar Harbor seeing around 1 inch, while interior locations along the I-95 corridor, including Bangor and Houlton, receive about 0.5 to 0.75 inches.

Rainfall at this rate will create slick roads and standing water on highways, especially along I-95 where early morning drivers may encounter reduced visibility and water pooling in low-lying stretches near Bangor and flood-prone underpasses in Caribou. Lighter totals near the Quebec border may limit impacts there, but damp roads will still affect travel speeds.

This is part of a broader system bringing widespread light but steady rain across northern Maine, improving soil moisture but increasing short-term travel hazards.

Drivers should slow down on wet roads, use headlights in reduced visibility, and allow extra stopping distance during the Sunday morning commute.

The most disruptive travel conditions are expected between midnight and 10 a.m. Sunday, when steady rain and low visibility will peak across northern and Downeast Maine.
