Maine drivers should prepare for significant delays starting tomorrow, September 10, as a large turbine transfer is set to move from Hermon to Columbia. The Maine State Police announced that the move will begin at 7 p.m. and take approximately eight hours.
According to authorities, two traffic patterns will restrict travel lanes along the route, including closures on Main Road (Route 1A) at the Lucerne Inn in Dedham and Bangor Road (Route 1A) near Ellsworth. A road detour will be set at Route 1, diverting traffic through Mill Street and Kennedy Highway. Travelers should be prepared for slowdowns as vehicles cross bridges at just 5 mph due to the turbine’s weight.
Maine State Police urge motorists to plan alternate routes, as heavy delays are expected. The group escorting the turbine will be the only vehicle allowed on certain bridges during the transport. Keep an eye out for updates and drive safely if you’re planning to be in the area tomorrow night.
