Louisville, Ky. – A light but potentially disruptive wintry mix could create slick travel conditions across northern Kentucky and southern Indiana early Monday, especially along the I-64 and I-65 corridors before precipitation transitions to rain by afternoon.
Moisture spreading into the region before daybreak Monday is expected to begin as a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and light snow. Temperatures hovering near the freezing mark may allow brief accumulations on elevated and untreated surfaces, particularly north of the Western Kentucky and Bluegrass Parkways.
In the Louisville metro, drivers along I-64 and I-65 could encounter slick bridges and overpasses between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. Minor slushy accumulation of up to 1 inch is possible in localized areas, mainly on grassy surfaces, but even light icing can lead to hazardous travel during peak commute hours.
Communities across southern Indiana, including Jeffersonville and New Albany near I-265, face similar risks of light icing or sleet before temperatures gradually rise. Lexington and areas along the Bluegrass Parkway may see brief freezing rain at onset before a steady transition to plain rain by late morning.
Farther south toward Bowling Green, precipitation is more likely to fall primarily as rain, with temperatures climbing into the upper 30s and lower 40s by midday.
Conditions are expected to improve through Monday afternoon as warmer air moves in and precipitation changes to all rain. Motorists should allow extra travel time, use caution on untreated roadways, and stay updated on the latest forecasts in case advisories are issued for the Monday morning commute.
