Los Angeles, CA – With soaring temperatures expected to surpass 100°F this week, the National Weather Service has issued urgent warnings for pet owners. Prolonged heat exposure can severely harm pets, especially during hikes or on hot pavement.

According to the National Weather Service, it only takes 10 minutes for a parked car to reach 102°F on an 85-degree day. Pet owners should never leave animals in cars, even briefly. Pavement temperatures can also rise quickly, burning a pet’s paws when the air temperature hits just 77°F.

Experts advise keeping pets hydrated, providing shade, and avoiding strenuous activity. If your pet pants excessively or shows signs of distress, move them indoors immediately. Keep an eye on the forecast, which predicts temperatures reaching 104°F by Monday, and prioritize safety measures for your pets.
