HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Residents whose homes were damaged during the EF-1 tornado and severe storms that swept through Cook County on Monday are being asked to complete an online damage assessment survey as recovery efforts continue.
According to the Village of Homewood and the Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security (EMRS), officials are partnering with the City of Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) to review damage caused by the severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that struck Monday, July 27, 2026.
The agencies are asking homeowners who experienced storm-related damage to submit an Illinois Residential Self-Assessment Survey. Officials say the information will help emergency management personnel better understand the extent of residential damage across impacted communities.
Residents have until Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2026, to complete the survey.
Officials noted that the assessment is intended to provide an initial overview of storm impacts and assist in evaluating community needs. Submitting the survey does not guarantee financial assistance or disaster relief but helps local and state emergency management officials document the scope of the damage.
The request follows widespread severe weather that produced an EF-1 tornado and caused damage in portions of the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding Cook County communities.
Residents seeking to complete the assessment can access the Illinois Residential Self-Assessment Survey through the link shared by the Village of Homewood on its official social media channels or through Cook County emergency management resources.
Officials encourage affected residents to submit their information before the Aug. 5 deadline to ensure their property is included in the preliminary damage review.
