Lombard, Ill. — The Helen Plum Library in the Village of Lombard unveiled its new “Waves of DuPage: Beautiful Cities” art piece. In collaboration with the College of DuPage Cleve County Museum of Art in the McAninch Arts Center, Rich Lo has created several ukiyo-e murals in cities across DuPage County to highlight the unique elements of each city. The murals are in conjunction with the “Hokusai & Ukiyo-e: The Floating World, Artworks from the Chiossone Collection” exhibition at the McAninch Arts Center.
The Helen Plum Library hosted a celebratory reception with Naperville artist Rich Lo on May 19. The mural outside of the library, and the McAninch exhibit, will display from May 31 to September 21.
The library will host other events throughout the summer to celebrate the Japanese ukiyo-e style art. On the North Patio windows facing Hickory Street, visitors can view the Lombard-inspired piece for as long as the McAninch exhibit is open. Additionally, residents can come to the library to pick up origami materials. Once the origami projects are complete, they can be returned to the library and displayed in the Library Hub. On Tuesday, August 19 at 6:00 p.m., the library will host a drop-in event with Justin Witte, Curator of the Cleve Carney Museum of Art. Witte will share more information about the curation and interactive elements of the Hokusai exhibit, and the history of the Edo period and Hokusai.
