CHEBANSE, IL – A rollover crash on Interstate 57 in Illinois claimed the life of 80-year-old Roberta Martin from Splendora, Texas.
The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon when Martin’s vehicle, according to State Police, was traveling northbound between Chebanse and Kankakee around 12:30 p.m., veered off the roadway, collided with a guard rail, and somersaulted.
Illinois State Police responded swiftly to the scene, closing down the northbound lanes for investigation and emergency response. Martin was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the crash to determine the circumstances leading to the accident. The northbound lanes of the interstate were reopened around 2 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, as traffic resumed its normal flow.
