COLLINSVILLE, IL – Cleanup efforts are underway across Illinois after a powerful storm system swept through the state on Saturday night, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. From Collinsville to Chicago, communities are grappling with the aftermath of the severe weather event.
In Collinsville, the old ‘Home Furniture’ store on Main Street lost its roof due to high winds, flinging it across the road. Debris, including glass, nails, and wood, remains scattered for blocks. In neighboring St. Louis, entire neighborhoods are filled with fallen trees and branches.
Approximately 150,000 customers were left without power Sunday as a result of the storm, and repair crews are working to restore electricity. Efforts to clear roads and remove debris are also in progress, as residents and officials work together to address the aftermath.
Chicago experienced downtown flooding, leading to the unusual decision to reverse the flow of the Chicago River. The storm’s impact caused the delay of the Chicago Nascar Street Race. As Illinois begins the cleanup process, communities are coming together to recover and restore normalcy after this devastating storm.
