East Chicago, IN – A 13-year-old student at Block Junior High School was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making verbal threats to shoot up the school. Officers responded to the incident after a school administrator reported the threat during school hours.
According to East Chicago Police, the student was identified immediately and taken to the office. The student’s parents were contacted, and the Criminal Investigation Division began an inquiry. Police charged the student with felony intimidation and transported them to the Lake County Juvenile Center.
This is the second school-related threat within two weeks, according to the East Chicago Police Department. Officials remind parents to speak with their children about the consequences of making threats in person or on social media.
Police emphasized that any threat, regardless of age, will result in prosecution. They urge parents to take proactive steps in monitoring their children’s online activities and reinforcing the seriousness of these actions.
