Noblesville, IN – A phone scam threatening Indiana residents with arrest for missing jury duty is spreading across central Indiana, including Hamilton County. Fraudsters impersonate Sheriff’s Office employees, using official-sounding names to lend credibility to their schemes.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, the scammer claims a warrant has been issued for the victim’s arrest due to missed jury duty or unpaid taxes. The scammers may even use local numbers on caller ID or mention courthouse employees to seem legitimate. To avoid “arrest,” they pressure victims into making payments via wire transfers or prepaid gift cards.

Authorities stress that Hamilton County never serves warrants over the phone or demands immediate payments. Residents are urged to hang up immediately if contacted and report any suspicious calls to the Hamilton County Public Safety Communications at 317-773-1282. Government agencies will never request payment through wire transfers or gift cards.

Stay vigilant, and remember that if something seems off, contact official agencies directly to verify information.
