Beach Park, IL – A fatal crash Tuesday evening on Green Bay Road has devastated a local family and left the community in shock.
The collision occurred at 5 p.m. near Hart Street. A Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 24-year-old Waukegan man, illegally passed vehicles in the northbound lane and struck a GMC Sierra head-on. The GMC’s 57-year-old driver from Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The Chevrolet driver also suffered severe injuries. A two-year-old boy on his lap was critically injured and transported to Lurie Children’s Hospital. Authorities later found a five-year-old boy under debris in the Chevrolet. The child was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead.
Investigators revealed neither child was in a proper car seat. Charges against the Chevrolet driver are expected as the investigation continues.
Local residents expressed concerns over reckless driving in the area, urging increased traffic enforcement.
