Beach Park, IL – A Beach Park man was taken into custody Saturday evening after allegedly hitting and choking a woman. Lake County Sheriff’s K9 Danno played a crucial role in the arrest.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a manufactured home on North Sheridan Road. The 911 caller reported that her boyfriend had physically assaulted her. The woman safely exited the home, allowing deputies to establish a perimeter.
Ruben Ruiz, 26, the suspect, attempted to flee through a window but retreated after spotting deputies. Ruiz then hid under a bed inside the home. Deputies, along with K9 Danno, entered the home to arrest Ruiz. Despite repeated warnings, Ruiz refused to surrender. K9 Danno was released, biting Ruiz’s arm, prompting him to surrender.
Paramedics treated Ruiz for the dog bite before deputies transported him to the Lake County Jail. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Ruiz with domestic battery and obstructing a peace officer.
