South Bend, IN – A South Bend Police officer was involved in a shooting early Sunday morning near Washington and Wellington Streets. Police responded to reports of a disturbance and crowd around 4:20 a.m. Upon arrival, shots were fired, leading the officer to discharge his department-issued firearm.
One male is being treated at a hospital for an apparent gunshot wound. Another individual, a female, sustained injuries unrelated to gunfire and is also receiving medical care. Fortunately, no officers were hurt during the incident.
According to the South Bend Police Department, the St. Joseph County Police Department will lead the investigation under the interlocal agreement between regional law enforcement agencies. The findings will be reviewed by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office once the investigation concludes.
