Hammond, IN – A 20-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday evening in Hammond, according to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
The victim, Steven Gonzalez, was identified by his family. The Lake County Coroner and Medicolegal Death Investigation team were dispatched to the scene at 419 Huehn St. around 6:29 p.m. Gonzalez was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.
According to officials, Gonzalez sustained gunshot wounds, and his death has been ruled a homicide. A forensic autopsy is scheduled for Monday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
The Hammond Police Department and its CSI unit are leading the investigation, with assistance from the Hammond Fire Department. No further details have been released regarding suspects or motives.
