Cedar Lake, IN – Police arrested a 31-year-old man late Sunday after a domestic disturbance involving threats with a handgun.

Officers responded around 10:06 p.m. to a 911 call on the 7600 block of W. 135th Place. En route, officers learned that William England allegedly threatened his girlfriend and locked her and her six-year-old child in a bedroom.

Upon arrival, officers heard a gunshot inside the house. Sgt. Godoy looked through a window and saw England holding a handgun. Officer Meyer forced entry and took England into custody without incident.

According to police, the victim and her child appeared visibly shaken but were unharmed. Medics evaluated them on the scene. Officers found a bullet hole in a wall near where England allegedly fired the shot.

Statements from the victim revealed England allegedly threatened to shoot her if anyone was at the house when he returned. Police lodged England in the Lake County Jail on multiple felony charges, including intimidation, criminal recklessness, and neglect of a dependent.

All suspects remain innocent until proven guilty in court.
