Jackson, KY – A Flood Watch has been issued for parts of south-central and southeast Kentucky from Monday evening through Wednesday morning, with excessive rainfall potentially leading to dangerous flooding conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, another wave of low pressure will bring 1.5 to over 2 inches of rain to already saturated ground, increasing the risk of flooding across the region. The affected counties include Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski, Rockcastle, Wayne, Whitley, Bell, Breathitt, Clay, Floyd, Harlan, Jackson, Knott, Knox, Leslie, Letcher, Owsley, Perry, and Pike.

Potential Impacts:

• Flooding of rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas

• Hazardous travel conditions due to water-covered roads

• Increased risk of flash flooding in flood-prone locations

Residents are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for possible flood warnings. If flooding occurs, move to higher ground immediately. Additional heavy rainfall is expected later in the week, which may worsen conditions.
