Dodge City, KS – A significant winter storm is set to hit central Kansas Saturday night, bringing heavy snow, ice, and hazardous travel conditions. Residents should prepare for up to 5 inches of snow and icy roadways starting late Saturday and continuing into Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a Winter Weather Advisory will take effect at noon Saturday and last through 6 p.m. Sunday. Freezing drizzle is expected to develop Saturday evening before transitioning to snow overnight. Ice accumulations of up to 0.1 inches are possible, creating slick roads and dangerous driving conditions. Gusty winds up to 45 mph will worsen visibility with blowing snow.

Travel is likely to be treacherous, especially Saturday night and early Sunday. The NWS urges residents to delay non-essential travel and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles if travel is unavoidable. Those in Dodge City and surrounding areas should prepare for possible power outages due to ice and wind.

Looking ahead, the weather will gradually improve by Monday, with sunny skies and highs near 26°F. Until then, plan for a challenging weekend. Local authorities recommend checking road conditions by dialing 511 or visiting the Kansas Department of Transportation’s website before heading out.

Stay updated with the latest weather developments and prepare for the weekend’s snowstorm by monitoring local forecasts.
