LA CROSSE, Wis. — Seasonal temperatures across western Wisconsin will take a brief downturn this weekend before a gradual warming trend develops early next week, according to the National Weather Service in La Crosse. While Friday will remain relatively mild for early February, colder air arrives Friday night, bringing single-digit morning lows Saturday, with a few locations dipping just below zero.

The coldest conditions are expected during the early morning hours on Saturday, particularly along Interstate 90, US-53, and surrounding rural roadways. Wind chills may drop into the single digits below zero, creating a sharp contrast from the milder conditions experienced late this week. Drivers should be alert for slick spots on untreated roads, especially during the morning commute.

By Saturday afternoon, temperatures will recover into the teens and lower 20s, followed by a steady warming trend beginning Sunday. Highs Sunday are forecast to reach the upper 20s to mid-30s, with even warmer air building into the region early next week. By Monday and Tuesday, many communities across western Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota will see highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s, signaling a milder start to the workweek.

Precipitation chances remain relatively low through Monday, allowing for generally quiet travel conditions across the region. However, by Tuesday, rain and snow chances may return, potentially impacting travel along major corridors including I-90 and Highway 14.

Residents are encouraged to dress for the colder start Saturday morning, limit prolonged exposure to the cold, and keep vehicles winter-ready. While winter conditions are far from over, no major winter storms are currently expected during this period.

Continue monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service for updates as temperatures fluctuate heading into next week.
