GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — Western Colorado will experience a mild and dry weekend as temperatures remain above seasonal averages, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. High pressure over the region will keep weather conditions calm, offering a welcome break from winter storms and hazardous travel.
Friday will start the trend with afternoon highs reaching the upper 50s to near 60 degrees in lower elevations, including Grand Junction, Moab, and Vernal. Mountain communities such as Aspen and Crested Butte will remain cooler but still milder than normal for early February. Skies will be mostly sunny with light winds, making travel along Interstate 70, US-50, and surrounding highways smooth and uneventful.
The mild pattern continues Saturday, with highs once again climbing into the upper 40s to low 60s across much of western Colorado and eastern Utah. Snowmelt may occur during the warmest part of the afternoon, particularly near road shoulders and shaded areas at higher elevations. Drivers traveling mountain passes should remain alert for refreezing overnight, though no significant hazards are anticipated.
Sunday rounds out the weekend with continued dry weather and temperatures similar to Saturday. Lower valley locations may once again approach 60 degrees, while higher terrain stays comfortably cool. Outdoor activities, recreation, and travel conditions are expected to be favorable throughout the weekend.
Despite the warm afternoons, overnight lows will still dip into the 20s and 30s, reminding residents that winter is not yet over. Fire weather concerns remain low, but dry conditions mean residents should still use caution with outdoor burning.
Looking ahead, the mild pattern may persist into early next week before cooler temperatures eventually return. For now, western Colorado can enjoy a quiet, warm, and dry February weekend.
