Charleston, SC – Hazardous wind conditions are expected across South Carolina today, prompting officials to issue gale warnings and a lake wind advisory for key regions. Boaters and outdoor enthusiasts are urged to take precautions as gusts exceeding 30 mph could pose significant risks.
According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, gale warnings are in effect along coastal waters from South Santee River to Altamaha Sound, stretching up to 60 nautical miles offshore. Small craft advisories are active for nearby areas, warning of rough seas and winds of 20-30 knots. These conditions are expected to persist into tonight.
Inland, a lake wind advisory has been issued for Lake Moultrie until midnight. Winds are forecast to increase throughout the afternoon, with gusts reaching 25-30 knots. Recreational boaters are strongly encouraged to remain in port to avoid dangerous conditions.
The weather forecast indicates a chilly start to the weekend. Saturday will see sunny skies with highs near 48°F, but brisk northwest winds will keep conditions cool. Saturday night temperatures will dip to 36°F under mostly clear skies. Sunday is expected to bring similar conditions, with highs around 54°F and increasing cloud cover late in the day.
Looking ahead, Monday will see a shift, with showers likely and a high near 61°F. Temperatures will then cool again midweek, with highs in the 40s and overnight lows near freezing.
