Wichita, KS – Residents across Wichita and central Kansas are waking up to freezing temperatures as a cold front moves through the area. Lows tonight are expected to drop to 18 degrees in Wichita, with surrounding areas like Topeka and Chanute seeing similar frigid conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, daytime highs will hover in the mid-30s today, with Wichita reaching only 37 degrees. Wind gusts of up to 21 mph will make temperatures feel even colder. Residents are encouraged to dress in layers and ensure outdoor pets have proper shelter and warmth.

The cold snap is forecasted to ease starting Friday, with highs climbing to 47 degrees under sunny skies. By Saturday, temperatures will reach the mid-50s, offering a welcome reprieve. However, nighttime lows will remain chilly, dipping into the low 30s Friday night and near 40 degrees Saturday night.

For those planning weekend travel on I-135 or I-35, clear skies and dry roads are expected through Sunday. Sunday will see partly sunny conditions with highs near 57 degrees, making it an ideal day for outdoor activities.

As temperatures fluctuate, residents are urged to monitor weather updates and take precautions during the coldest hours of the night. Keep faucets dripping to prevent pipe freezing and check on elderly neighbors or family members who may need assistance.

Be sure to stay tuned for further updates and prepare for warmer but breezy conditions by the weekend.
