Duluth, MN – The North Shore is preparing for multiple rounds of snow and potentially dangerous wind gusts heading into the weekend. Lake effect snow continues today, with additional systems bringing light to moderate snow Friday through Sunday. A wintry mix is forecast for Sunday evening, leading into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, lake effect snow today could result in 4 to 11 inches of accumulation for areas along the South Shore, with gusty winds reducing visibility on roads. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Iron County, while Ashland County remains under a Winter Weather Advisory. Drivers on U.S. Highway 61 should exercise caution as slick conditions are expected through the weekend.

Friday will bring scattered snow showers early, with highs reaching 25°F. By Saturday, a brief lull will bring partly sunny skies and highs near 36°F. However, conditions will worsen Sunday afternoon as a wintry mix develops, accompanied by gusts up to 20 mph. This mix may transition to snow Sunday night into Monday, with temperatures hovering in the low 30s.

Travelers and residents are urged to monitor local forecasts and stay updated on changing road conditions. Strong northwesterly winds today will create subzero wind chills as low as -15°F, emphasizing the importance of layering and limiting outdoor exposure.

For more details, visit the National Weather Service website or tune into local weather updates. Be prepared for potential delays and slippery conditions throughout the weekend.
