Topeka, KS — Kansas residents should prepare for extreme heat and scattered storms this weekend, with temperatures expected to exceed 100°F starting Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued heat advisories across Southwest Kansas, predicting heat indices above 110°F in some areas.

According to the NWS, Dodge City and other regions will see highs of 104°F today, followed by temperatures around 101°F on Sunday. Monday is expected to bring the most intense heat, with temperatures potentially reaching 100°F in Topeka and other cities.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous outdoor activities. In addition to the heat, scattered storms are forecasted for Northeast Kansas this morning. The storms are expected to bring wind gusts up to 60 mph and small hail, particularly north of Interstate 70. However, the storms are not expected to be severe and should dissipate by mid-morning.

As the heatwave continues, Kansans should monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety. The current forecast indicates a gradual cooling trend after Monday, with temperatures in the low 90s by mid-week.
