Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is gearing up for an intense heat wave starting today, with the worst conditions expected early next week. A surge in temperatures is forecast to bring heat indices into the triple digits. Monday will see the beginning of this trend with heat indices reaching 109° in some areas.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heat will intensify further on Tuesday. The region is projected to experience the hottest day of the week, with heat indices soaring to a staggering 112°. Residents are advised to take precautions, including staying hydrated and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Saturday and Sunday will see high temperatures in the low 90s, with partly cloudy skies and isolated thunderstorms near the Illinois River. However, these storms will bring little relief. Monday’s temperatures will reach 94°, with an oppressive heat index ranging from 98-109°.

The heat wave will persist into midweek, with temperatures still in the 90s by Wednesday. Slight chances of thunderstorms are possible, but they will do little to cool down the region. The heat wave is expected to ease slightly by Thursday, though temperatures will remain above normal for late August.
