Kankakee, IL – Kankakee City police have made an arrest in connection with a weekend shooting at Pioneer Park that left six people hospitalized, including one critically injured.

According to police, 29-year-old Deon Sims of Kankakee was arrested upon his release from the hospital. Sims, who was also injured in the gunfire, faces multiple alleged charges, including aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Authorities recovered a gun at the scene.

The shooting occurred during a birthday party at Pioneer Park, causing panic among attendees. The critically injured victim, a 16-year-old, remains in critical but stable condition at the hospital. The other five victims suffered less severe injuries and are expected to recover.
