Kankakee, IL – Body Recovered in Water Rescue Operation at Kankakee Dam

Kankakee, IL – A water rescue operation at Kankakee Dam ended tragically Saturday afternoon with the recovery of a body.

According to the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred around 2:25 p.m. in the 400 block of East Water Street. The Kankakee Fire Department was dispatched for a male individual in the Kankakee River who had not resurfaced. Multiple area fire departments, along with the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois Department of Natural Resources, conducted the search and located the individual at approximately 4:40 p.m.

The identity of the individual is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for June 23 to determine the cause of death. The incident remains under investigation by the Kankakee County Coroner’s Office, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
