Joliet, IL – A Joliet man was arrested after police discovered a modified handgun and drugs during a traffic stop on Waverly Place. Donnell Brown, 20, was taken into custody without incident after officers found a firearm, cannabis, cocaine, and prescription pills. The vehicle was stopped on September 14, 2024, for a suspended registration.

According to the Joliet Police Department, Brown was a passenger, while Dakota Morris, 23, was driving. Officers observed a handgun on the floorboard near Brown’s feet. Upon further investigation, they determined the gun had been modified with an automatic switch.

Brown had recently been arrested at the same location on September 4, 2024, for possessing a similar weapon. At the time of the latest arrest, Brown was out on pre-trial release for the previous offense.

Morris was cited for operating the vehicle with a suspended registration and released at the scene. Brown now faces additional charges, including possession of firearms, controlled substances, and violation of his pre-trial release. He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
