Jackson, Mississippi – Rain and storm chances are expected to increase across the ArkLaMiss region this weekend as a slow-moving front approaches.

The National Weather Service in Jackson reports that widespread rainfall totals will likely range from 1 to 3 inches across much of central Mississippi and northeast Louisiana, with some areas receiving less than 1 inch farther east.

Forecasters say rainfall rates are not currently expected to be high enough to create widespread flooding concerns, particularly given recent dry conditions. However, officials will continue monitoring for the potential of a few strong to severe storms as the system develops.

At this time, the greater severe weather threat is expected to remain west of central Mississippi, though isolated stronger storms cannot be ruled out locally.

Rain and embedded thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday and continue into Sunday as the front moves through the region.

Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware heading into the weekend and monitor updated forecasts, especially if outdoor events or travel plans are scheduled.

For drivers and families with weekend activities, periods of steady rain and occasional thunderstorms may impact visibility and road conditions.
