Sioux City, IA — Breezy and warm conditions are creating elevated fire risks across northwest Iowa and surrounding areas today, urging residents to stay alert and take precautions. Winds are expected to reach gusts up to 30 mph, contributing to heightened fire danger, especially in areas east of Interstate 29.
According to the National Weather Service, these conditions are accompanied by patchy morning fog that will clear for partly sunny skies and a high near 80 degrees. This warming trend, coupled with breezy southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph, raises fire hazards, particularly in grassy and wooded areas. Those traveling or engaging in outdoor activities should exercise caution, especially along highways where visibility may be reduced by fog this morning.
Showers and thunderstorms could arrive tonight with a 20% chance of precipitation between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., potentially reducing fire risks temporarily. Winds will remain breezy, however, with gusts up to 30 mph expected, further maintaining a high fire alert across the region.
Looking ahead, Wednesday brings a 50% chance of rain showers, cooling temperatures to a high of 52 degrees and maintaining breezy conditions. Thunder is also possible as another weather system moves through. Cooler temperatures will persist into Thursday, with morning showers clearing up and a high of 52.
By Friday, the region will see sunny skies with a high near 60 degrees, offering some relief from the week’s unsettled weather. Breezy conditions will return Friday night into Saturday, though temperatures are expected to hold around 61 degrees, with another round of possible showers forecast for Saturday.
