Indianapolis, IN – Fire crews responded to a garage fire on the city’s southeast side after an overheated propane tank ignited. The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. at 10241 E McGregor Rd, with firefighters arriving to find the structure already collapsed.

The propane tank, containing 800 gallons of fuel, was actively burning. Indianapolis Fire Department’s HazMat Task Force 44 employed a Propane Flare Kit to burn off excess propane. Firefighters also used a water injection system to control the flames and prevent vapor buildup.

According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, it took crews three hours to bring the situation under control. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

No residents were home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The fire was contained to the garage, sparing the nearby home from damage. Decatur Township Fire assisted at the scene.
