Indianapolis, IN – Temperatures are dropping into the mid-30s across central Indiana, setting up a widespread frost threat that could damage vegetation by early Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, a cold front moving through the state will usher in much colder air through the weekend. The highest risk for frost will occur late Sunday night into Monday morning, especially along and north of the I-70 corridor, including Lafayette, Muncie, and Kokomo.
Urban areas like downtown Indianapolis may stay slightly warmer, but outlying and rural locations could see temperatures fall to 32–36 degrees, creating ideal conditions for frost formation. Patchy frost is also possible as early as Sunday morning in some locations.
Residents are urged to cover sensitive plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and take precautions to protect early-season crops. Calm winds and clear skies overnight will increase the likelihood of frost development.
Conditions begin to moderate after Monday, with temperatures gradually warming through midweek. Additional frost advisories or freeze warnings may be issued as colder nights approach.
