Indianapolis, IN – Detectives with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit have arrested a man wanted for the murder of a juvenile male following a months-long investigation into a July shooting on the city’s east side.

According to IMPD, officers responded on July 11, 2025, to a report of a person shot in the 2900 block of North Mitthoeffer Road. Responding officers and Indianapolis EMS provided medical aid to the victim, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Detectives identified Michael Jones as the primary suspect after extensive investigation and community assistance. Following consultation with the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On November 3, 2025, detectives located Jones inside a vehicle with two other males — David Barbee and a juvenile. Both Barbee and the juvenile were allegedly found in possession of firearms and were arrested on firearms-related charges, police said.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine final charges. IMPD noted that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

IMPD officials said the Violent Crimes Unit continues to focus on removing armed offenders from Indianapolis neighborhoods.
