Indiana Teen Stabbing Suspect, Previously Deported to Honduras, Arrested After Haircut

Lake County, IN – Police have captured a suspect in the stabbing of a teen girl attending a baseball game in Lowell after he attempted to evade capture by getting a haircut. 

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Dimas Gabriel Yanez, was arrested this afternoon following an intense manhunt in southern Lake County. Yanez was spotted earlier in the day and reportedly tried to alter his appearance by cutting his hair just before officers caught up with him in a cornfield near 120th Avenue and Iowa Street. 

According to reports, Yanez had previously been deported to Honduras in 2018 but illegally reentered the U.S. and has been involved in criminal activities across the country. Homeland Security has been notified of his arrest.

Sheriff Oscar Martinez Jr. praised the police force and the public for their cooperation. The investigation is ongoing, with more details to be released as they become available.
