Update: Suspect Identified
Lake County, IN – A manhunt is underway in Lake County after a suspect allegedly attempted to stab a 14-year-old Crown Point girl on Saturday. The incident occurred at the VFW baseball field in unincorporated Lowell around 3:45 p.m.
The girl, who was watching her brother’s baseball game, was attacked by an unknown male with a butcher-style knife. The suspect then attempted to stab the girl’s mother, who intervened to protect her daughter. Both victims were treated and released from a local hospital.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect is a dark-skinned male in his 20s, wearing a burgundy top and black shorts. Investigators believe the attack was random. They have recovered the weapon, but the suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
Authorities have deployed multiple units, including the Special Victims Unit, to search for the suspect. Residents with information are urged to call 9-1-1.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department continues to search for the suspect with help from neighboring agencies.
