Monon, IN — Indiana State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred late Tuesday night after a disturbance at a Monon liquor store.
According to authorities, White County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the store at 10:30 p.m. after reports of an intoxicated individual causing trouble. By the time deputies arrived, the suspect had fled the scene.
Police learned the suspect had gone to a residence on State Road 16. Deputies encountered the suspect there, armed with a knife. The individual allegedly advanced toward the deputies, leading at least one deputy to fire their weapon, striking the suspect. Deputies immediately called for EMS and provided medical aid.
The suspect was transported to a Monticello hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The White County Coroner’s Office will release the suspect’s identity after notifying the next of kin.
