East Chicago, IN – Two men from Gary were wounded in a late-night shooting Thursday at a Speedway gas station in East Chicago, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to the East Chicago Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:50 p.m. on April 11 to the Speedway located at 3956 Guthrie Street after ShotSpotter detected four gunshots in the area. When officers arrived, they found a man bleeding from the head behind a white Chrysler 300.
Shortly after, a second victim arrived at St. Catherine Hospital with a gunshot wound to his arm. Both victims—identified as a 23-year-old and a 22-year-old male from Gary—were later transported to a Chicago hospital, where they remain in serious but stable condition.
Police recovered a handgun and shell casings at the scene. The Criminal Investigation Division is currently reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.
