Vermillion County, IN – Eastbound traffic on I-74 has been reduced to one lane near the Illinois state line as crews work to remove a semi-truck involved in a fire last night.
According to the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were called to the scene late Thursday night. The semi caught fire along the eastbound lanes, forcing the temporary closure of the highway. Crews battled the blaze for hours before extinguishing it.
Authorities say one lane remains closed to allow for the safe removal of the damaged semi. Drivers traveling through the area are advised to expect delays and consider alternate routes until all lanes reopen.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries have been reported. According to officials, the recovery operation is expected to last through the early hours of Friday morning.
