Rensselaer, IN – A house fire east of Rensselaer demanded a seven-hour response from local and neighboring fire departments Sunday evening.

According to the Rensselaer Volunteer Fire Department, crews responded to assist the Francesville Fire Department. Firefighters from Monon also joined the effort. The stubborn blaze required extensive manpower and labor, with multiple tanker shuttles used to transport water to the rural location.

Jasper County EMS provided support throughout the operation. Fire officials confirmed that no injuries occurred.

The fire left equipment frozen and trucks coated in ice, adding to the challenges. While firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, they spent additional hours reloading trucks and preparing for the next emergency.

Despite the fatigue, firefighters found a silver lining in leftover Italian beef and pizza prepared for a football party they missed. “Norte Dame lost,” the department noted humorously, “but we really tore into the food.”

The fire caused significant damage to the home, but crews ensured the safety of those in the area. Officials continue to assess the aftermath.
